WRONG POP
Axis Festival Special
Wrongpop #14 is on Friday 2nd May and we bring you 4 awesome bands. This is all for the measly price of £4.00 on the door. Tickets? We don’t do tickets. We’d rather give more money to the bands and not greedy ticket agents who have nothing to do with music.
THE LEIF ERICSSON are legends of UK DIY punk rock. Be prepared to have your head blown off by their amazing and melodic tunes. They recently released their self-titled album on Bombed out Records of Leeds, have toured the UK extensively and Japan twice.
A VIEW FROM ABOVE a young new band brimming with potential and the brains not to be swept into the ‘industry’ non-sense that seems to envelope other young bands. They play clever stop start songs that leave you wondering what’s happening next.
UNTITLED MUSICAL PROJECT will be coming from Birmingham having released a 7” and mini-album on Tigertrap Records of London. Frenetic and filthy songs similar to McLusky and Ikara Colt. Do Not Miss!
and
HERZOGA are mandatory listening for anyone with ears. What's more, legend has it that even those without
ears have experienced a state of exquisite rapture simply through the harmonic vibrations of the band's
sweet, sweet music. If you don't have ears and arelamentably incapable of attaining rhapsodic states of
ecstasy, you can still come along to the Glebe andsmirk as these discerning gentlemen throw themselves
around like men with a particularly irate monkey on their collective back.
The band's debut single received repeated airplay from a number of high-profile DJ's, including Steve Lamacq
on Radio 1 and Radio 6, and John Kennedy on XFM. Their second single was released last month to critical
acclaim and further heavy rotation on the nation's airwaves. The band have recently recorded a Maida Vale
session for Huw Stephen's Radio 1 show, which should be making the faint of heart gasp in the very near
future.
"Like early Art Brut wrestling with a pub outing of psychiatrists" - Steve Lamacq
"Not a second is wasted on this crucial, inventive unit... Sparksish quirkiness." - Artrocker
WRONGPOP
WRONG /noun: That which is contrary to the principles of justice or law (Example:"He feels that you are in the wrong"). /verb: treat unjustly; do wrong to.
POP /noun: Music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love.
/verb: fire a weapon with a loud explosive noise (Example: "The soldiers were popping").
1. A blatant unorganised attempt at bringing down the modern mores of today’s music. A shit hot monthly night at the Glebe in Stoke.
2. Wrongpop doesn't care about trends and cliques, gigs are put on once a month for the love of music and friends and nothing else.
3. Wrongpop makes no profit whatsoever; all money made after paying for the night goes straight to the bands.
4. Wrongpop won't put a goody bag in your hand on the door and pat you on the head, or accept money for sponsorship - the people who come to the gigs pay for the night, and a damn fine night they have too! £3/£4 for 3/4 bands, once a month.
5. Wrongpop makes mothers cry tears of joy and fathers clench their fists with pride.
