Welcome to the ONE CITY website!
The project was launched in Stoke on Trent in February 2008 and has spanned the whole city. Over 1000 people have been involved so far. The aim of the project is to collect stories about the Potteries around five themes:
High Days and Holidays
My First Job
Saturday Night Out
School Yards and Nursery Rhymes
and
ONE CITY
We asked school children to interview older members of the community to reminisce around these themes. Once the stories had been collected the young people then put together a short presentation of work expressing how these stories had affected them and how they felt about the city they are growing up in. The young people were asked to explore what their hopes were for Stoke on Trent and what changes they would like to see.
Very often delving into the past can give us all a clearer idea of how we'd like to shape our futures.
Please feel free to take a while to browse through the stories we've collected so far. Some are funny, some sad and some a bit saucy! If you like you can leave us a story on line now. Just log in and follow the instructions.
If you would prefer to send us a story via the POST, please send your memories to: PO BOX 2162, Stoke on Trent ST7 1XA. It would be useful if you could send us your name, age and the area in Stoke you live.
Later on in the summer the stories on the website will be turned into a DVD and given away through the local libraries, schools and community groups which took part in the project.
Thanks for your interest and have fun browsing the stories.
